    Mixed Flow pump EMF 

    A type of pump that mixes features of radial flow and axial flow pumps.

    Radial flow pumps are in-line centrifugal pumps that operate on a horizontal plane in relation to the flow direction of the water. Axial flow pumps are the opposite—they are in-line pumps that work on a vertical plane in relation to the water. Mixed flow pumps are a cross between the two. The impeller sits within the pipe and turns, but the turning mechanism is essentially diagonal, using centrifugal force to move the water along while accelerating it further with the push from the axial direction of the impeller. This creates enough force to generate high rates of flow.

    Mixed flow centrifugal pumps borrow characteristics from both radial flow and axial flow pumps. As liquid flows through the impeller of a mixed flow pump, the impeller blades push the liquid out away from the pump shaft and to the pump suction at an angle greater than 90 degrees.     Since the shape of the impeller of the mixed flow pump is between the centrifugal pump impeller and the axial flow pump impeller, the working principle of the mixed flow pump has both centrifugal force and lift. By the combined action of the two, the water flows out of the impeller at a certain angle with the shaft. Lift the water up through the volute chamber and piping.

    General characteristics of mixed flow pumps

    (1) Compared with the centrifugal pump, the mixed flow pump has a lower lift and a larger flow rate. Compared with the axial flow pump, the lift is higher and the flow rate is lower. Applicable to irrigation and drainage in plains and lakes.

    (2) The water is sucked and discharged at a certain angle to the impeller shaft along the flow direction of the mixed flow pump, so it is also called a diagonal flow pump.

    Where are they used?

    Mixed flow pumps are primarily used in applications requiring a high level of flow combined with relatively low discharge pressure. There are a number of industrial applications where this type of pump can be useful. They are also used to help propel watercrafts, such as jet skis.
